Reserve One Vehicle Score Framework

An objective, weighted evaluation framework designed to rate vehicles based on empirical reliability, ownership economics, safety, and long-term value.

Framework Overview & Category Weighting

The Reserve One Vehicle Score produces a single composite score from 0 to 100. Rather than relying on subjective test-drive opinions or temporary popularity, our model aggregates empirical telemetry, standardized safety testing, real-world maintenance records, and depreciation data across seven weighted dimensions:

  • Reliability (25% Weight): Telemetry-backed frequency of unscheduled repairs, component failure rates, recall severity, and long-term durability.
  • Ownership Cost (20% Weight): Total 5-year and 10-year cost of ownership including fuel/electricity consumption, scheduled maintenance, insurance premiums, and financing fees.
  • Efficiency & Energy (15% Weight): Thermodynamic efficiency (MPG, MPGe, kWh/100mi), real-world range vs. EPA rating, and cold-weather thermal retention.
  • Safety (15% Weight): Crash test ratings (NHTSA, IIHS), structural integrity, active crash-avoidance systems, and driver assist feature reliability.
  • Practicality & Ergonomics (10% Weight): Passenger room, cargo volume, cabin noise levels, climate control performance, and UI ease of use.
  • Long-Term Value (10% Weight): Historical brand residual values, projected 5-year depreciation curves, and secondary market demand elasticity.
  • Ownership Convenience (5% Weight): Service dealer network density, parts availability, charging network compatibility, and warranty processing ease.

Confidence Levels & Data Triggers

Every score is tagged with a mandatory Confidence Level reflecting the depth and duration of underlying data:

  • High Confidence Requires 3+ years of active field data, multiple independent fleet reports, and verified crash testing.
  • Medium Confidence Applied when 1-3 years of data exists or when a vehicle shares an established platform with minor powertrain updates.
  • Low Confidence Applied to newly introduced models with limited field time or small statistical sample sizes.
  • Insufficient Data We refuse to issue numerical scores for vehicles with less than 6 months of market telemetry.

What We Do NOT Score

We explicitly do NOT issue speculative predictions for brand-new model years without market data. We never accept manufacturer sponsorships, loaner fleet perks, or advertising fees that could compromise objective scoring integrity.
