Reliability Evaluation Framework

Reliability Score Methodology

A comprehensive subsystem telemetry evaluation covering 12 key mechanical and electronic vehicle systems.

The 12 Core Reliability Subsystems

Vehicle reliability is not a monolithic attribute—it is the sum of component durability across distinct physical and electronic domains. Our Reliability Score aggregates service records, technical service bulletins (TSBs), NHTSA complaint databases, and independent repair shop telemetry across 12 subsystems:

1. Powertrain & ICE Engine Mechanical internal combustion engine components, turbochargers, timing chains, and oil seals.
2. Electrical Architecture Low-voltage (12V/48V) wiring harnesses, alternators, starters, and body control modules.
3. Transmission & Drivetrain Automatic, CVT, or dual-clutch gearboxes, transfer cases, differentials, and CV axles.
4. High-Voltage Battery Cell balance, BMS contactors, cooling pumps, and high-voltage junction boxes.
5. Hybrid System & Inverters Electric motor-generators, power split devices, traction inverters, and regenerative braking actuators.
6. Suspension & Steering Air suspension struts, control arms, ball joints, electronic power steering racks, and bushings.
7. Interior & Climate Control HVAC compressors, heater cores, sunroof seals, power seat motors, and cabin trim fit/finish.
8. Infotainment & Electronics Center touchscreens, digital gauge clusters, Bluetooth connectivity, and OTA update stability.
9. Recalls & Safety TSBs Frequency, severity, and manufacturer responsiveness regarding safety recalls.
10. Parts Availability Supply chain lead times for OEM components and independent aftermarket replacement parts.
11. Out-of-Warranty Repair Cost Average labor hours and part costs required for typical failure modes.
12. Scheduled Maintenance Labor Complexity and cost of routine service items over 100,000 miles.
